Vilnius University Faculty of History, in partnership with the German Historical Institute Warsaw and its Branch Office Vilnius is happy to announce a call for papers for an international conference Believing, making, acting: freedoms in pre-modern Europe (to be held on May 27–28, 2027, Vilnius).
The questions, ranging from competing definitions of freedom and acts of granting freedoms to representation of freedom and freedom of representation, are to be discussed and presented, whilst a keynote lecture on early forms of freedom in the Near East and Mediterranean before Hellenistic period will be delivered by Prof. Dr. Jan Dietrich from the University of Bonn.
Although the conference is mostly devoted to the inquiry of historical contexts, proposals not limited to the field of history are equally welcome.
